Studied painting at the School of Applied Arts in Brno.

Worked in the advertising department of the factory for knitting machinery in Třebíč.
1965
First drypoints were made, working with the subjects of the Jewish quarter in Třebíč and the landscape around Ptáčov.
1966
Married Libuše Rymešová from Třebíč.
1967
Son Emanuel was born.
1970-73
With their own hands, the artist and his wife built a house with a studio in Nehradov, Třebíč, after a design by the architect Jiří Auermüller.
1974
Daughter Kateřina was born.
1981
His brother Michal´s death dealt him an unexpected blow; the artist left his job and devoted himself to free creation exclusively.
1984
Origins of his collaboration with the poet Jan Skácel: Ranný created drypoints to accompany his poems and published them at his own costs.
1985
First exhibition abroad - Stari grad gallery, Plovdiv.
1986
The Skácel bibliophile engravings by Ranný exhibited by the Československý spisovatel gallery in Brno. He participated in the International Biennial of Graphic Arts in Cracow for the first time.
1987
Ranný invited to the International Biennial of Graphic Arts in Ljubljana. National Gallery in Prague purchased his engravings.
1988
A printed cycle inspired by Skácel’s poems arose, extended in the following years. Ranný started working in another technique, lithography.
1989
Invited to exhibit at the show of European Graphic Arts in Grenoble. His return to painting started.
The first international award – at a festival of graphic arts in Menton, France – for the triptych entitled Winemakers’ Graveyard, written to Jan Skácel’s poem of the same title.
1990
His mother, the painter Zdenka Ranná-Samsonová died – to be re-discovered later.
His solo exhibition at the Prague Melantrich gallery opened by Prof. František Dvořák.
1991 Academy of Arts award at the International Biennial of Graphic Arts in Ljubljana.
He became a member of the association of Czech graphic artists, HOLLAR.
A cycle of drypoints surpassing the height of one metre was made.
Venice – the impulse of modern arts in the Peggy Guggenheim collection.
1992
Eighteen-part cycle entitled The Raven Landscapes created.
1993
His hitherto largest ensemble of prints exhibited in the halls of the Carolinum in Prague.
1994
Ministry of Culture award for the Most Beautiful Book of the Year for his White Thirst.
Participated at the international exhibition of the „World Laureates“ in Katowice, Poland; received award for his print, „Area according to Petr Král“.
1995
Munich, Lenbachhaus, Das bunte Leben - Wassily Kandinsky – this exhibition greatly impressed him.
1996
First solo exhibition in the USA, Indigo Gallery, Lake Oswego.
1997
"International Graphic Arts" in Kagawa, Japan – Czech graphic arts represented by Ranný and Jiří Anderle.
1998
Ladislav Novák presented Ranný’s exhibition in Malovaný dům in Třebíč.
1999
His Raven Landscapes cycle displayed at the "Edgar Allan Poe - illustration of a tortured mind" exhibition at the Prague Carolinum.
2000
Print of the Year", main award for the triptych "The Raven Landscapes after E. A. Poe"
2001
Museum of the National Literature in Prague, Ranný exhibited prints on literary subjects: Jakub Deml, Ivan Diviš, Jan Skácel, Petr Král, Ludvík Kundera, E. A. Poe. The exhibition was presented by Simeona Hošková.
A retrospective exhibition in the Museum of the Vysočina, Třebíč was opened by Jiří Machalický.
2002
Since that year, Ranný’s print has been part of the prize in the annual Jaroslav Seifert Award .
2003
Return to painting, inspired by his repeated trips to Dalmatia.
2007
Grand Prix at the International Biennial of Graphic Arts in Uzice, Serbia, for his cycle entitled, Stelae.
His exhibition of oil paintings at the UBK Gallery in Prague opened
by Prof. František Dvořák.
His engravings Stele III and IV exhibited at the International Festival of Arts at the Gyeongnam Art Museum in Korea.
2008
Visited the Kunsthalle in Munich - Mark Rothko, a retrospective exhibition – very intense impressions, motivation
2008 the book entitled, Slavné vily kraje Vysočina (Famous Villas of the Czech-Moravian Highland Region) presented E. Ranný’s family home
Václav Havel received a print by Emanuel Ranný as part of the Jaroslav Seifert Award conferred by the Charter 77 Foundation.
2009
Trip to Munich, visiting the exhibition “Wassily Kandinsky: Absolut Abstrakt” at the Lenbachhaus Gallery.
At Clam-Gallas Palace in Prague, he was awarded a special prize for intaglio printing (a dry-point print in this case) in the “Print of the Year” competition.
Invited to the Art Fair in Karlsruhe.
Along with David Smith, he exhibited in Seattle, the IMA Gallery.
The Munich gallery owner Emil Ruf arranged an exhibition on the theme of freedom. “Die Flügel der Freiheit” was the title of the exhibitions held at Gallery 729 im Lehel and the RUF Gallery, presenting Georges Braque, René Carcau, Marc Chagall, Max Ernst, Johnny Friedlander, Pablo Picasso, and Emanuel Ranný. Later on, the exhibition was taken over by the UELTZEN Gallery in Sommerhausen.
Represented at the exhibition “Contemporary Czech Art” in Astana (Kazakhstan], and Bangkok (Thailand).
2010
Jiří Machalický, the curator of the Kampa Museum opened his exhibition of paintings and prints at the Exhibition Hall of the PRE Company in Jungmannova Street, Prague. In the course of the opening ceremony, Emanuel Ranný launched the bibliophile edition of Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Raven”. It was introduced by Martin Hilský, the poem translated by Martin Pokorný was recited by Miroslav Kovářík.
Participating in the exhibition entitled “Fine Arts from the Czech-Moravian Highlands” in Chalons-en-Champagne.
2011
Represented at the exhibition “Soul of the Landscape, the Spirit of the Place” at the Gallery U Betlémské kaple in Prague.
2012
Invited to participate in “Creative Cities Collection – Fine Arts Exhibition London in 2012”, which is an important international cultural event, following the “Beijing 2008 Olympic Fine Arts”. The exhibition was organised by the Chinese International Cultural Association, the Chinese Society of Support of Culture and Development of the Arts, and the Beijing Association for the Support of the Olympic Games. This event was related to cultural projects in London at the time of the Olympics 2012. The painting entitled STELE IV was exhibited at the Barbican Centre, London.
